Hi! My name is Ms. LeSage, and I am a 4th grade teacher at the Marymount School of New York. Join me as I discover the wildlife trails of the American West!

I have arrived!

I have arrived in Salt Lake City, and it's absolutely beautiful
as you can see! Right now I'm watching the news while I
wait for the rest of my Earthwatch team members to arrive at
the hotel; a woman was just on talking about being followed
by a bobcat while she was hiking here yesterday! I hope he
didn't wander too far, so I can try and find him on the trails
tomorrow!

Hi Ms. LeSage,

We are looking forward to our Skype session tomorrow.
We have a few questions about your adventure so far.
What is 1 goal that you would like to accomplish during this week?
Have you seen a lot of wildlife? If so, what kinds of animals?
Talk to you soon!

Hi Class IV!

I miss you too! I'm going to try to answer all of your questions in this comment. For one, I'm doing great! I'm a little tired after hiking for 6 hours straight in the mountains today, but it was so beautiful! I wore my snowboarding suit and lots of layers to stay warm, but it was so nice out that I was able to remove a layer as the day went on. It was 40 degrees and sunny with hardly any wind. It's also very dry here in Utah, making the conditions even more ideal. As for wildlife sightings, I did not see a bobcat, but I did see an entire family of huge deer! I took lots of pictures and even shot a video of them prancing through the trees! I'm going to provide more details about my first day in my daily blog, and hopefully that will answer the remainder of your questions. I look forward to Skyping with you tomorrow morning :-)

Hello!
Is it steep where you are hiking and is it hard to walk?

At January 25, 2010 at 6:41 PM , Blogger Kelly LeSage said...

Some parts are very steep and can be challenging, but other parts are relatively flat. The depth of the snow is what really presents the greatest challenge, as it's almost 3 feet in some areas!

Please leave your initials and your grade level on future blogs so that I know who I'm responding to :-)
